Today again, the air vibrates with the sounds and movement of machines. The Hilton Drive hill is being transformed into a shifting, lurching, almost fluid mass of dirt as four excavators with buckets continuously redefine its shape. The dirt is, of course, being transferred to the soccer site which is also changing contour, although not as perceptively. The east end of the upper level of that site seems to be coming more in line with the west end through more excavation, as the lower level rises a bit with each delivery of dirt. The compactor and bull dozer are busy leveling out each new arrival. As this proceeds, the trench for the pipe crosses the road and is now clear of the parking lot.
But the out-of-doors is not the only site of activity and transformation. Work continues in the gym with the air conditioning installation. Also, ducts arrive for the heating system connection to the theater and gym annex. Needless to say, this involves several rooms in the basement which had to be cleared sufficiently for this operation. Another "event" unfolding in the area of connection between present building and theater is the transformation of the stairs mentioned in yesterday's blog. Actually, the stairs are still there, as some photographed sleuthing reveals. The landing outside the backstage area has been removed, so what you see in the photo is the doorway to the outside almost covered from the outside with new concrete, and in the upper left, the backstage door. In truth, this blogger is beginning to feel like she is operating from the backstage of this whole drama. May it be a smashing (oops!) success.
